Rubbing block on breaker points melting
Rubbing block on breaker points melting
Hi,
I have a problem on my 1800 cc Spider engine (double IDF40). On longer drives, it melts the rubbing block on the breaker points, complete messing up the gap...
Did anyone experience this? How do i solve it? Had it twice now.
I read somewhere that a wrong coil resistance can cause the points to run hot and can lead to the rubbing block melting (MGA forum). Is this possible. Any experience?
Thanks for helping,
Bart

Cam had been cleaned and greased less than 200 km ago.

Re: Rubbing block on breaker points melting
Hi,
i have replaced condersor, points, HT leads, sparkplugs and the coil itself.
so everything.
the points are fine, it's the plastic rubbing block that dies, strangely.
How can i find out if i have the power lead to the coil on the wrong post?

I don't know what kind of coil that is. Power from the ignition switch goes to + or +B. The points are connected to the opposite post.

Ok, some more questions.
What coil do i need for a 1800cc engine?
How do i find out what is the plus side of the coil?

Re: Rubbing block on breaker points melting
Call a vendor, order a Bosch Blue Coil. It will have +B on the positive side.
