Auxiliary Timing (SOLVED)
I just put on a new timing belt and wanted to make sure my auxiliary timing was set properly. I haven't tightened the tensioner yet but I have turned over the engine a few times and it seems to move freely.

I have a 1979 Spider 2000 and my auxiliary pulley has both a notch in the edge and a tiny hole in the rim nearby. It does not look at all like other pulleys I have seen in pictures. I am not sure which one is my timing mark for 1:00. I am guessing it is the notch but just not sure. Anyone out there know? Thanks!

If you look at the above photo, in the centre of the pulley @ about 1 o'clock is the hole for the locating dowel. If you reference it in line from the centre to the outer egde of the pulley, it's about 2 teeth anti clockwise to the timing mark. Good chance your aux pulley is also a camshaft pulley. I never thought of that possibility, but you are right, it is exactly the same size. It is a casting and does not have the big holes like the one posted above. Like I said, there is a notch on the inside of the rim, and 6 teeth clockwise from that, there is a tiny hole in the edge of the rim. It is really more of an indent than a hole, as it does not pass through, like in the camshaft pulleys. Of the two features, I would say the notch is more visually prominent. The notch is to the left and the 'hole' is to the right. I could not get the entire pulley into the shot because of the radiator.... Thanks for looking!

bump for some help.... I am guessing that the mark I want is the notch to the left. There is also a hole that can be seen off the shaft that appears to line up with it. Is anyone familiar with this pulley design?
I am kicking myself now for not having the sense to mark these pulleys with white out before I pulled the belt. Doh!

For the auxiliary gear the timing mark should be to the right of the alignment pin hole near the mounting bolt. It should match the marks on the exhaust pulley.

Yes I realize that, and in the picture I know it is NOT correctly aligned. My question is which mark on the pulley is the correct one.

in that specific photo, it looks like the mark with the paint residue on it and triangular notch, If you look at the other pulley in the pic you will notice the timing mark is just to the right side of the dowel mark.
Just make sure once the timing belt is on you turn over the crank by hand twice to make sure nothing is hitting
