Distributor identification help needed - 1980 Spider

Post by screamindave »

Hello all,

1st, let me say that this site has been a godsend for me. Thank you for all the tech info! What a great resource!

Since the late 80's I have been a fan of the X1/9 and I now own my 3rd. I have always wanted a Spider and ran across a 1980 FI Spider in decent shape with no body rust/cancer but it would not start. After a few minutes of negotiation, I was able to purchase it for $1,100.

Using this website and the links to Brad Artigues website for diagnostic info, I was able to get it started and barely idling. After further inspection I found that it needed a new mag p/up.

I also noticed that the distributor did not have a vacuum advance and that the distributor looked wrong. Can any identify this distributor?

I can't see the pics either, however if it is similar looking to the spider unit without the vacuum bit, it could either be removed altogether or a unit from a 131 (In Aus the 131 didn't have the vacumm capsule)

ironically that is how my car will eventually look like minus the big bumpers, I even desire the luggage rack but do not want to put holes in my boot lid

I have just noticed the weights are missing from the holes

They're not weights, they're a type of bush I suppose you'd call it, to hold the weight up off the plate to reduce friction.
