stevec..the number is stamped into the engine above the oil filter next to the oil dip stick...A reference page on one of these sites shows that number as a 1600..I have a chance to get the cylinder head and intake manifold for free from my son. I was hoping it was a 1800 engine so I could upgrade my 79 2000l motor for increased performance. So now i'm confused. can anyone else confirm which answer is correct?

1592 cc engines in us spiders whether California or federal spec never had catalytic converters. However these engines did have air injection and egr.

Prior to the catalyst cars the Spider had dual silencers, sold as a single part in two sections. The first silencer looks like a catalytic converter except it has no flanges, it is sleeved, otherwise it fits in the same spot.BEEK wrote:1592 cc engines in us spiders whether California or federal spec never had catalytic converters.
