If it was me, I would follow ORFORD2004 advice to 100% rule out lack of fuel. It's an easy test to spray starter fluid in the intake when it won't start. If it starts, a noid light on the injectors will tell you whether its fuel delivery or injector electrical circuit. ( dual relay etc).
Did you try this during the last no start?

Also, I don't see in either thread that you checked the AFM...does the flap move freely?, does it ohm out correctly at the ECU connector? You stated you have had backfires which can bend the flap and/ or blow out the disk in the flap ( if it is the type that has a blow-out disk,)

Good tip with the timing light..I will definitely try that!
I have checked the AFM and all seems ok.It was not really a backfire, more like a minor popping sound. It still shouldnt do that ,being a f.i. car!It did this when the motor acted as if flooded with fuel.I didnt have any starting fluid to try that method, but will get some tomorrow.I drove the car up and down the road several times this afternoon.I have tried restarting when hot and cold. She fired right up each time.It would be easier to track this down if it was completely a no start!!! Weird.
