I cant find anyone or any place that can provide a product or even information( plug size and thread pattern) about the 2 air pollution valves that thread into the cylinder head by #3 and #4 spark plugs. What size works
and where can I purchase them

Pretty sure they are 18mm x 1.5. Probably easier to buy a couple oil drain plugs from an automotive store.

Also try Parker Hydraulics stores

They usually have these aluminum or steel plugs in bins.

Mine were 16MM on my '79. Just went through this a few months ago.
One of the fittings is a finned aluminum piece, and it broke flush with the head trying to remove it. I had to ream it out to where the threads just barely started and was then luckily able to then clean up the original threads w/ a 16mm tap. If that didn't work I was going to drill/tap it up to 18mm as "plan B."
Many of the M16 plugs are too deep for that cavity in the head. These aren't that deep and fit perfectly.

so I plugged the cylinder head as suggested, On my 79 spider ..previously I noticed oil smoke coming from underneath the bonnet at stop lights, not moving but only after spirited driving (is there any other type of driving for these wonderful toys?) the problem is that I haven't been able to find the source...NO, I repeat NO oil leaking from any source I can find..I've even put new clean sheets of cardboard under the car after driving like a "Italian" for the last 30 days, no oil spots. It's not leaking from cam boxes, or oil filler cap, not smoking from exhaust or front or rear of block... I've owned this car for 3 months, po let it sit for 8 years. and plugged off some of the pollution equipment, while leaving the crazy amount of vacuum lines running along the cylinder head. The car runs strong with 6000 rpm shifts, no sign of power dropping but when I stop it at a light visible smoke comes from the front. My only guess is the hose that comes below the air cleaner and connects to it may be the problem. Anyone of the fantastic forum members have any ideas? The oil level has not dropped significantly.

Don't knpw how it is on 1979 but look for a dark spot on the exhaust manifold. The cam towers weep sometimes. We used to used to punch a lite mark every 1/2" or on the tower bosses so that the gaskets would not walk. I have also seen the cam cover gaskets leak but they are easier to spot. The head can weep also near the corner. Next time it happens try to get a wiff of it to be sure it is not antifreeze.buckspet wrote:so I plugged the cylinder head as suggested, On my 79 spider ..previously I noticed oil smoke coming from underneath the bonnet at stop lights, not moving but only after spirited driving (is there any other type of driving for these wonderful toys?) the problem is that I haven't been able to find the source...NO, I repeat NO oil leaking from any source I can find..I've even put new clean sheets of cardboard under the car after driving like a "Italian" for the last 30 days, no oil spots. I've heard others make similar observations, but i'm pretty sure there are no leaks. But to be sure I plan on steam cleaning the whole area this weekend and start the observation check out again. As always the people on this forum are a step above...Thank you
