oil pump pickup location

Post by sierraspider »

Heard a couple different answers to this question. In 82, 2.0 motor does oil pump pickup at front or rear of sump and how far off the pan is pickup. Have small ding in front of pan, but no oil light (idiot light). It was like this when I bought it 5k ago and so far no harm. Was searching on another subject and found discussion on dented pans but couldn't find thread with this info.

here are pictures of a 2L pan. the oil pickup sits in the middle of the curved baffle. It is pretty close to the bottom, so you pan can't take too much abuse. My oil pickup was undamaged with this pan on the car.

Thanks for the pics, it really helps. Mine is not that thrashed and I've never had my oil idiot light come on. I'd love to have pressure gauge instead of light. Can a gauge from an earlier model or something else be rigged up. So Cal Mark says one can use a screwdriver to feel around when doing oil change. I wonder if a bore cam would fit. Anyway thanks again. Thanks again for your help on my seat problem-resolved now on to the next thing: a road trip to enjoy all the work.

Just checked pan-ding is less than 3/8" and no leak at pan (is this rally a fiat?). So hopefully rest of summer is spent in drivers seat rather than under the hood.

You can most definitely wire in an oil pressure gauge from an older car. I did it on my 1980 and I am very pleased with the results:
