Hey guys, based on this picture, I have a couple of questions
The alternator has a label on it but it's all scratched out. Any idea what brand/Amp alternator I have? ('79)
The second question is most fuel filters I've seen just have an inlet and outlet. Mine has a third branch. Why??

Re: Alternator ID and fuel filter question
The carburetor you have doesn't have a fuel return port, so a fuel filter with a pressure release valve was installed. This enables the fuel return system to function, which is good, it makes the pump work less and circulates fuel continuously.
The alternator I have no idea, it looks like a stock FIAT (Marelli) one with all the grime that goes with it.

Thanks!
I'll look for a replacement fuel filter with return. I see a few options
According to the shop manual, the stock '79 should be a 55Amp Bosch alternator. Darn, I wish it had a readable label

If its a replacement you are after you have a few upgrade options with more amps. Or are you after keeping it more oiginal?

Re: Alternator ID and fuel filter question
Most of the Bosch alternators had a couple of places on the back that said "BOSCH" like on the voltage regulator. Put a voltmeter on it. Doesn't matter so much if Bosch or MArelli, you can't buy the Marelli any more.aevansgatech wrote:Thanks!

Good Idea, I'll measure it out.
Doesn't matter too much to me, but I work for Bosch now so I like to put their parts where possible

Re: Alternator ID and fuel filter question
So I have another question that's partially visible in the picture.
On the left fenderwall, there is a bracket with a piece clearly missing. Is that where the old emissions stuff went, like a carbon canister or something? There's also a disconnected line which apparently isn't needed anymore down there.
