Washing Engine
What's the best way to wash an engine, do I need to cover any parts? Can I use degreaser?

I cover the carb barrel with a plastic bag. I use a mild degreaser like Purple Power. I find Simple Green works but I can't stand the smell. I don't like the Gunk stuff because I find it eats paint off the engine.

Careful with the Purple, its fabulous on grease but will etch aluminum.

Disconnect the battery terminal and cover exposed electrical components with a plastic bag and some tape. For example, cover the alternator! As mentioned cover air intakes. The use of paint brushes with stiff but not damaging brittles is a great way to get into the nooks of the engine bay. After cleaning you can let air dry or suck/dab water out of areas. I use a small 2" nozzle attached to my leaf blower to blow water off engine and out of engine way.
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!
