New Spider Spy Shot

The rumors Ive hear from the folks at Fiat is that its going to be an Abarth straight out of the box. Im going down to put a deposit down next week...... wonder if they'll take my money for a car they dont even have yet.

Not sure I like what I think it might look like as I was hoping for something with a little more of a nod to the classic styling, but will reserve my final judgement until an official picture is available.

BTW, the person who designed the body contour camoflauge artwork has a sensor of humour......look close and you will see spider webs!

I think it's a good looking car, from the renderings I've seen. I think the best one is the one with the rear end that has the same "up" angles at the outside fenders as the originals. I'm not quite a fan of the headlights as I think they are a little too cute for the car. I like the design of the new miata, and even though people are dissing the new 124 because of it sharing it's platform with the MX-5, more and more car companies are doing it to share the cost of R&D: Subaru and Scion (Toyota), VW and Porsche (even though VW now owns a majority share in Porsche), and now Toyota and BMW are developing a joint platform. It seems to be the new future for automobiles, and considering how expensive it can be, I think it's a way for the manufacturers to keep costs down, though cars are still getting pretty darn expensive!

Exactly.

What some refuse to acknowledge is FIAT was in on this from the start. They are not just slapping FIAT badges on an MX-5.

I love my 124, especially now that it's finally together, but this past weekend's trip (NY to Pitt to NY) has me rethinking my devotion to how it used to be: A/C and less than 100dB would have been nice.

Everything I've read about the new MX-5 indicates it's the car I've been waiting for since my dear departed G2 Integra: Light, nimble, responsive, light. When the warranty is up on my Abarth next Spring, I'm heading to a Mazda dealer if FCA still haven't figured it out.

Ciao,
Mark

I'm in exactly the same spot. By this time next year I hope to either have a new MX5 or FIAT Abarth 124 Spider. It all depends on the specs.

I hope you are all right. It looks like there is an interesting hood scoop in the pictures. The Miata platform has some proven reliability. If it is launched as an Abarth, is should have some additional performance to draw in the young crowd. May be just the thing to drive up the awareness and values of our cars in the publics eye. Remember what the original 500's were selling for back in 2008, 2009 compared to now.

My latest dealer experience, a Sept 10 appt for a bad wheel bearing, now has me leaning Mazda all the way.

FCA cares not at all for the owners of their cars.

Mark,

My Dealer is okay but I get the feeling FCA does not give a damn about the dealers. Some of the service techs even own Abarths.

Just my experience and I visit the dealer plenty.
