I have a 1980 Spyder. It never liked hot weather and I'm bring it down to Florida. So, I just replaced the original radiator with an aluminum one and put a after market 12" fan on. I think running it without an active thermostat will keep the temp cooler.
Is there any negative to running it without an active themo (guts removed, free flow now) besides no heat which I won't need in Florida? Thanks for any reply.

Running a car below the proper operating temperature isn't good for it at all. That's why it has a thermostat.
Fiats, unlike many cars from that era, didn't and don't overheat. The stock cooling system works fine as designed.
If yours does something is wrong.
A whole bunch of Fiats just returned from Pittsburgh over many miles, at high speeds and in stop and go traffic, in oppressive heat, and their temp gauges never went above 190 or so.

I live in Phoenix, where the air temp is 110, in stop and go traffic.. It would go over 190, but not by much..

I concur something is amiss.
Perhaps retarded timing? That can make an engine make extra waste heat.
