Aluminum radiators!-direct replacement

Post by So Cal Mark »

I now have direct-replacement aluminum radiators for 1800 and 2L Spiders. These bolt right in place of the stock radiator, use the stock cooling fan and fan switch. These radiators only weigh 7lbs!! $189 plus shipping

That's beautiful! What does the stock radiator weigh?

Cool! (No pun intended.)

Mark, are there no fitment issues whatsoever for an '81 FI? Where are they made?

I think aluminum is around 1/3 the weight of copper, but I saw online somewhere that an aluminum rad will be about 30% to 40% lighter. There must be more metal in an aluminum rad.

we had them made to exact oem dimensions, so no fitment issues at all.

Thickness too? With the diesel conversion I have less than 1/2 inch between the oem radiator and the water pump shaft and I know that eventually I am going to need to replace the radiator.

a stock 2L radiator weighs 17 lbs, so a 10lb savings. Thickness is 2", about the same as the oem thickness

Will it help the stock motors run cooler during hot weather using the stock fan? If so, how much?
