chinese 34 adf question

Post by btoran »

my new carb just arrived and it came wrapped up pretty well. however, when i unwrapped it, a small brass barb was floating around the bottom of the box. you can see it in the first picture below laying on the work bench. is this an extra piece? did it break off something? is it needed?

as you can tell, this will be the first of several carb questions. :)

It appears to be the Fuel Outlet. Goes right near the fuel Inlet (red capped one)
What does that empty port look like? Can't see in the photos if it's blocked, broken, open, etc.

Any update? I'd also like to hear you thoughts on the carb after performing the initial setup and tune. I've been eyeing them on eBay to replace the 32 adfa on my 75

i think you're right. it looks like it snapped off next to the red capped one. the first picture shows the empty spot, in the second, i'm holding the barb over the empty spot. it seems i need a new, new carb. brad artigue, who wrote the book (literally) on electrical wiring and carbs for our fiats, has a very good post about installing the chinese 34 adf. search for it if you haven't seen it already. btw, i'm replacing the 32 adf on my 1975 as well.

I bought one and put it and a single plane intake on my otherwise stock '79 last year, had to modify the linkage but I really like it, have put about 500 miles on it with no problems, significant power and drivability boost. My install photos are in the Chinese ADF thread that Brad started. Fortunately, mine arrived in one piece, but the box was beat to h@ll, so I am not too surprised that yours is broke, must be a long rough trip from China. I also had to loctite down the secondary barrel stop screw, as it vibrated loose and kept increasing my idle speed.

If they don't take it back and exchange it, you should be able to remove the section and install one from your old carb provided they are the same diameter.

The second thing you want to do is make sure the accelerator pump roller bearing actually bears on the accelerator pump cam. Bending the arm should re-center it.

Good Eye. It's clearly off track no that you point it out.

My accelerator pump was bent on my Chinese ADF and a DFEV I recently received. They just don't pack them well, no matter where they are shipped from.

well, the company is sending me a new unit. so we'll see what it looks like when it arrives. one question..... did the 1975's come standard with the single plane manifold or will I need one of those too?
