Exhaust bumping
Exhaust bumping
My 1981 Spider's exhaust bumps and bangs about way too much. I installed an ANSA tail pipe which seems too far forward. The rear hangers are pulled forward instead of hanging straight down. I've messed with the system but just can't get it to fit right, especially over the axle. Seems to me the pipe after the converter is bent wrong. I haven’t modified the hangers. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Exhaust bumping
I had the same problem with my Ansa. Took to an exhaust shop and they applied heat and bent the pipe for a better fit. No more banging.

It looked to me that might work, but I thought it best to ask first. Thanks for the help.

Re: Exhaust bumping
My Ansa's twin pipes are not horizontal. The left one is a little lower than the right one. While this would be an acceptable imperfection in the male anatomy , on the Spider's muffler it aggravates my OCD tendencies. Would this be a more involved fix? Perhaps not worth the trouble?

Re: Exhaust bumping
IMHO the ANSA is a waste of time, it is an otherwise ordinary muffler with two (cheap) tips and a cheap metal case. By the time you get it to hang right it will rust...oh yeah, it'll never hang right. Get a stock single tip.
