updating veglia clock...its in the car!
tired of my non functioning clock i decided to try something with another non working clock i had lying around.
my procedure thus fas has been to dismantle the clock and carefully get the hands off and remove the dial from the movement. that done i then ordered this
http://www.klockit.com/products/dept-15 ... 10000.html
i was only able to use the hour hand from the original clock, the others were not compatible with the shaft on the new movement. i trimmed the minute and second hands that came with the movement to lengths similar to the original, painted the hour and minute hands with the white touch up paint in my cars color, painted the second hand bright red.
now its time to assemble the thing and get it to stay in the original can with the lens/bezel combo. my idea is to buy two 1/4 inch thick clear plastic spacers placing one behind(glued in place?), one on front of the movement to set the clock a bit deeper back from the glass so the second hand does not touch the lens.
I'm hoping to just silicone the bezel to the can or alternatively cut a large hole in the back of the can in order to access the battery.
i will take photos and document this process here if anyone else wants to try it.
sorry for the punctuation, i have an arm in a splint so it was all caps or all l.c. and I'm a quiet kinda guy...

Re: updating veglia clock...wish me luck
Thought about doing that to an old non working clock to experiment - can't wait to see your results

If you end up like me and screw it up from over fixing stuff that ain't broke you can go to Palo Alto Speedometer for a bailout. They fixed my clock and put in a new face "glass" for 75 bucks.

I just tell my son that the time is correct in Italy.
But seriously, please do keep us posted and post plenty of pics. I'd like to fix my clock someday.
Good luck!

Re: updating veglia clock...progress pics
so id have to admit this may be more of a PITA than its worth but I'm also operating with just my left hand so maybe it isn't as bad as i feel.
cut the back of the cylinder for battery and winder access.
then siliconed the whole thing together with small beads to hopefully keep the clock from spinning inside the cylinder...the ABS pipe "ring" i made as a spacer has a section cut away so i can "spin it to access the battery when needed and spin it in the closed position otherwise. This is all based on the hope that the silicone holds this crap together. But the battery is in there now and the clock is ticking...stay tuned

Re: updating veglia clock...update 2
silicone is curing and so far so good. real test will be in car to make sure it doesn't fall or vibrate apart. heres how it looks from front. i will of course clean the excess silicone.

...and its working at the moment
so all in all id guess someone needs to come up with an easier solution to get it in there but the inexpensive movement i linked in the original post fits nicely and works as a substitute for the original!

Iooks great, if changing the battery becomes a headache it may be worth building a 12V to 1.5V regulator (or what ever voltage that battery is, I couldn't tell)
there are a few out there, here is one for example http://www.circuit-innovations.co.uk/LM317.html

looks great, but you've obviously got a screw loose (at about 10 o'clock).

Re: updating veglia clock...its in the car!
Yeah thats another issue. The piece that holds the u bolt behind there broke due to incessant fitting and removal while trying to fix all the electricals...anyone ever have that happen?
