clearly an attempt to make huge money from selling the domain to FCA pending the release of the new Spider

Sorry to differ but this guy has been posting about his and other's fiats, spiders and others, for a few years. I highly doubt his reasoning was to make "huge money" selling the domain.

The timing is coincidental, since FIAT just trademarked (or renewed the trademark, or whatever) the "124" badging.

Ha - yep I agree. But "big bucks" aren't what FIAT spends on advertising. Maybe little bucks.

Not a coincidence at all. I do owe this domain already more than 6 years. (Do your homework first and check Whois.com before commenting).
A worldwide operating American company in Delaware with branches on every continent, specialised in harvesting significent domains, made already several offers on my domain http://www.fiat124spider.com since May 29. last !

Although I am 71 years young, feeling fantastic and very well of body and mind, I am busy starting my own business as a designer/craftsman again just now and do not need the money from this or from any other corporation. I can make my own living, "hold up my own trousers" and feel quite relaxed and comfortable in this funny but foolish game.
But first and foremost, I like my Fiat 124 Spider and my blog with this unique domain name.

And replying to the comments of my Fiat Spider loving predecessors in this post, there is a most applicable saying in The Netherlands where I come from:
"He who wants to beat a dog, will always easily find a club"

The obvious answer - why not donate it to the cause, and set your canonical DNS entries to resolve to http://www.fiatspider.com!?

That would be nice :)

Why would Anthony donate a site to a vendor run site??

Hello Anthony,
Its evident from your attention to detail in your blog that this site was your baby. I enjoyed your Bird's Eye View segments as well as your SOLO tour of Italy, 5000 km in 3 weeks. The perfect documentation of a roadtrip defined with old fashioned Italian music. It's too bad the Italians didn't give your Spider a second take as it rumbled through the Italian mountain sides. You would certainly get more attention had you been cruising in Germany, those Germans love these cars!
You have a beautiful Spider and what makes it more appealing is that this 35 yr old car can be trusted to cruise through the villages in Italy without fearing hiccups or even worse, a breakdown. You are one cool dude sir, i envy your get-up-and-go attitude and your life itinerary of living to a ripe old age of 87.
Cheers to you, friend! 8)

Why not?

(And I agree with Arik too - only hope I'll be able to get in and out of my spider at 80+!)

Dear Spiderfriends,
The story is not about me, it's all about a very clear confirmation from an unofficial automotive source (viz. mine) that the historical name Fiat 124 Spider will be restored as the name of the new 2015/2016 Spider.

Given that Fiat Chrysler have registered the trademarks recently in the U.S. - I think we all agree with you.
