accelerator pump

Hi,. My 1976 1800 spider hesitates to take the gas when I put my foot down to sudden, otherwise there is fine response.
Am I on the right track assuming that it could be the accelerator pump ? gas filter, air filter and fuel pump is new.
Do I have to buy a new pump and how difficult is it to replace, I am still very, very green in all this but wish to learn without trashing the car.

the pump diaphragm may be bad, but the pump discharge nozzle could be plugged or the o-ring that seals the pump nozzle could be leaking. Make sure the ignition timing is correct and that the mechanical advance works

You don't really replace the "pump" - just the diaphragm inside the pump. Very easy to do.
