## of Existing Spiders?

Post by bonsaiwino »

Is there any kind of registry that keeps an accounting of the number of Spiders that have survived? If not, does anyone have a handle on reliable estimates? Many thanks!

I know of at least 4. :D Usually people are curious about this because they want their car to be rare. Unless you have a very early year Spider it is NOT rare, they made lots of them. Ferraris before the 308 are rare, Zagato-bodied anything is rare; Fiat Spiders are fun, affordable, plentiful hobby cars that can also be used as a daily driver if you are somewhat masochistic.

If only that were true.

About 15-16 years ago, most states seal these records. The only information available through those sorts of companies is either "a best guess" or very old date. Certainly not very accurate Fiat as far as older Fiats are concerned. As I recall, the last time I pulled a list of all the registered Fiat owners in the US there were about 23K. But that was 15 years ago and included every Strada and 128 which had a license plate.

I think the number is far less now.

There was someone, in Germany I believe, that was trying to keep a registry.

But I agree, there are still lots of them out there. Local Craigslist has 9 of them currently for sale.

they made about 200,000 spiders, and about 70% were for the US market. even if 10% survive today, still a ton of cars.
