And this is what happens when your dual idf 40 manifold is not designed for a spider or coupe.

So I got my waffle manifold from Italy today.
And now I know why it was too good to be true.
I already have it at a shop to weld up the hole and build the area back up on the intake runner.
My question is, what were they trying to make clearance for?
I am about to go thru the translation process to deal with the ebay seller in Italy to try and get some compensation for the repairs.
It was advertised to be "used in excellent condition".

I did this conversion on a 79 2L in a 70 spider. As I recall, I couldn't put the manifold on as there was interference with the brake booster/MC. I suspect that is what the grinding was all about. I ended up cutting all the runners out of the manifold and switched them all around and re-heliarced so the carbs sat vertical and had a forward offset to give me clearance in the back.

Sounds like a nice job of fabrication.
Just the opposite of what happened here.
This grinding is under the front intake runner and cooling passage.
I was thinking either alternator or distributor clearance.

I got the twin IDF 40's installed and synched up.
Annnd....The Coupes balls have dropped!!
OH MY GOD what a difference.
I will be reworking my throttle linkage to incorporate a cable between the pedal arm and the bellcrank that drives the throttle arms.
The hip hop tendency of the stock solid linkage is only more pronounced with the additional response and power. The cable should remedy that problem.

Here is the first run thru of the cable system. I'll clean it all up once I have it tailored to my liking.
Seems to work ok with the elimination of the hippity hoppity that can happen with the engine rocking in it's mounts with the solid linkage.
