somewhere around 3000-3400 RPM, there is a vibration or rattle. It does not change whether clutch is pressed down; nor does it seem to vary when actually driving car (still rattles at same rpm range when transmission engaged).
I first thought it could be the rear resonator muffler, but when I had assistant gun the engine, it seems to be coming from the bottom of engine compartment. Engine does not rattle. The exhaust system had been modified as to catalytic converter removed and replaced with pipe.
The car drives great. New tranny rebuilt (but, again, the vibration happens when tranny not engaged).
Any suggestions or ideas appreciated

Re: vibration or rattle
Problem solved. When I revved engine, I noticed lower bolt head mounting alternator would turn when rattle occurred. I went to tighten nut.......but there was no nut. Added the nut and tightened. Problem gone
