Finally got started!

Post by spidernut »

My project car has been sitting in the garage for far too long. Today I decided I really need to start working on it....so out came the motor! :D

Mark,

I'll be breaking down the motor, checking all the specs and either doing an overhaul or a complete rebuild if it needs it. It all depends up on what I find when I break it down. It ran well when I bought it but had bad valve guide seals based on the manner in which is smoked. I bought it with the intent of converting it to EFI but leaving it stock otherwise. I have all the parts for the EFI conversion but have a long road ahead since I'm going through the entire car.

Basically everything will be redone on this car and I will do 100% of the work excluding the machining and the paint. I will do the bodywork myself. Thankfully I have a spare transmission to replace the worn out one that came in the car, and I was very lucky that the differential is in great shape. I'll rebuild everything else front to back.

Originally, I was going to do a complete custom interior but came across a nearly pristine and complete stock interior for $100 excluding seat covers. I'll definitely do a custom compartment in the rear seat area.

It'll be a long project but should be a ton of fun for me. I find it very therapeutic working on my cars after a long day listening to people's financial and relationship woes.

   just a tune-up!

kenncarp - it's a 79 like yours. I drove it before I bought it. It was a disaster but did run and I drove it before towing it home. It had been sitting for about 12 years and was transferred between about 5 different people before I picked it up.
