3way gas filter..

Post by garion »

So I bought and hooked up a 3way gas filter (http://amzn.to/1Lrwaek)... I needed this, because I have a DFEV, with no fuel return on the carb like the AFDA that was on it... I also replaced all the rubber fuel lines in the engine compartment..

WHen i first hooked it up, I didn't have the return line tightened enough, and had fuel coming out.. The amount of gas coming out at idle was impressive (mechanical fuel pump)... My question is: What was happening when I didn't have this fuel return line hooked up? Was it just backing up somewhere/somehow? I assume I am putting less pressure on my carb components now... Hopefully this fixes my 'fuel ran back to the tank' issue..

Next up is to reintroduce the charcoal canister.. Its disconnected right now.

And now I have a gas leak in the rear of the car. Only started after I took it for a quick test drive last night, found it this morning... It never ends. At least I have a spool of the fuel line I need..

So I removed and replaced the old fuel lines that were leaking.. They were the rubber ones that right after the exit from the interior.. I cut them, let the gas drain out (gas was about half full, caught most of it, and reused), and replaced with new fuel line.. Note that there's two different sizes there, I used 5/16" and 1/4" fuel line..

After doing that, adding some of the gas back into the tank, I went to start the car.. I figured I would have to crank for a while to get the gas back through the lines and into the carb, especially after sitting a couple days... Would you believe the sucker started within 2 seconds? No hesitation, nothing. I must have been pulling air from those leaky lines..

Still have the odd issue of the car idling higher after its warmed up, but one thing at a time.. I'm not complaining (much)

And back to my original question: Since I added the 3 way gas filter, does this put less stress on the carb parts and the fuel pump? (DFEV, mechanical pump)
