Hard Tops
hey guys i have my 83 2000 pinin and I always thought a hard top would look really nice, after my research I found the original few were I think, very ugly and ruined the overall look of the car. I have been thinking about getting one off of a miatia and fitting it to my car but not sure if it will work. Any ideas??

Re: Hard Tops
you can expect to do some serious modifications. For it to fit out of the box, The top sweep and width of the windshield would have to be to same. The corner from the windshield to the B-piller would have to be the same. The curve and length of the rear mount would have to match. This doesnt address the height or how to bolt the mechanism to the car.

Re: Hard Tops
To modify a Miata hardtop to fit would require an unreasonable amount of money/time and wouldn't even have the same profile once (if) it's finished. The dimensions and mounting points are too different.
Smoothline looks the most like a Miata top of the available options, but not exactly like one.
The original Pininfarina hard tops are crazy expensive and good luck finding one, the three-window SnugTop is (in my opinion) hideous and looks like it belongs on a faux-wood-paneled '80s Chrysler LeBaron.

Here you can find a fiberglass copy of the original hardtop: http://www.ricambirossocorsa.it/en/985- ... corsa.html
Not a bad price, but be prepared for some work when finishing it. It may need some putty and sanding...

Re: Hard Tops
Lucas,
I Just finished restoring an original Pininfarina hardtop, and I honestly thing that looks great on the car. However, I also realized how much unpractical it is: while it might be possible to make the hardtop fit without removing the soft top, if you want to do it right you actually have to partially remove the softtop, so it's not like you wake up in the morning and you decide whether you go soft of hard that day.
So, long story short, I realized it just doesn't work for me. If you think it might for you, let me know, I can send you pics and we can discuss about money.
Thanks
Simone
