Post by sierraspider »

Driver door on my 82 sagging a bit and getting hard to close. Want to fix asap. Did search a got 2 different answers. Adjust @door (remove door card) or adjust at hinges @ A pillar. As always, thanks for all responses.

each adjustment does separate things. when you adjust the hinge at the door jam, it moves the door in and out. When you remove the door panel and adjust the door, it raises and lowers the door. most wear usually occurs on the top hinge and it drops the door. When you close the door, the little plastic triangle should pull the door into alignment just as it closes. Also, look at the condition of the hinge frame in the door to make sure it isnt cracked. it is a good idea to outline the hinge with a pencil before you start, so you know where you started. When you loosen the bolts, leave one of the bolts at each location tight enough so you have to hit the door with your fist to get it to move.

Another thing to look at is how worn the hinge pin is. when the door is barely open, but enough where you can see the hinge pin, lift the door up and down and see how much wiggle you have in it. If it is terrible, you might want to just buy a new hinge.
