My trunk won't open

Post by Jimb »

Hi guys,
My key turns ok in the lock but it doesn't open the trunk.
Does anyone know how else I can open the trunk?

Maybe I beat Jay to this one. He's the Forum official librarian, achivist and researcher.

I don't know if there is a question left to ask that hasn't already been discussed at some point in the past.

Good info for sure...thanks!
In this case I managed to spray some WD40 in the key hole then kept wiggling the key until it did open.
Now I'm soaking everything with WD40.
Thanks again,
Jim

When I got my 1978 it already had a hole cut behind the seat back on the passenger side in-line with the trunk lock.

FWIW it's easy to remove the license plate and drill a hole ~2" down from the trunk lip. The trunk latch can be popped open by inserting a screwdriver and prying the trunk latch lever toward the right.

Sounds like good insurance mod to do when you have access to the trunk and before anything goes wrong.

Some have added an emergency pull cable to the latch similar to the hood emergency cable. It attaches to the latch where the black plastic arm attaches that goes to the lock. Some have the cable pull come out the passenger side bumper shock hole others have it come out below the car.
