So I screwed up, pulled engine and tore it done without loosening the aux shaft pulley bolt. The only thing left in the block is the aux shaft as of course you cannot access the flange/ seal bolts with the pulley on. I cannot figure out how to hold the shaft from spinning while I brake loose the bolt? It is a phenolic wheel so if I grab it with my giant adjustable pliers I just break off teeth Is there some trick to doing this once you get to this point?
If I have to cut the wheel to get to the bolts (once I can pull the shaft I can secure the shaft and break loose the bolt) can't I just use my old exhaust cam wheel as a replacement aux shaft? I am going to adjustable cam wheels anyway so I have the spare cam wheel.

Impact gun in one hand and the pulley in the other hand.

Get yourself a chain wrench. Plenty of different types available and useful for undoing oil filters as well

you can also use an old timing belt to protect the teeth before you put a wrench on it. you might be able to hold it with just the timing belt while using the impact wrench.

Just for my education, doesn't the Aux pulley shaft have a cam on it ? Would a block of wood wedge it in place or can't you get to it?

I second the impact wrench solution. Wrap your old timing belt around the sprocket and hold it tight with lock-grip plires. Hold the pliers and trigger the impact wrench and that bolt will come right off.

Re: Seeking Fiat wizard help, aux shaft
Done, thanks for all the suggestions. However, as all I have at the house is an electric impact and it wouldn't budge the bolt, I finally just grabbed the eccentric land with some vise grips, let that lock the shaft by wedging it against the side of the block, and used a big breaker bar on the bolt. Thankfully the bolt gave up before the side of the block! I dinged up the eccentric fuel pump land a little but I'm planning on my brother-in-law machinist cutting that off anyway!
