32 adfa ball valves(???)

Post by valkyrcustoms »

My 75 is equipped with the 32 adfa and though I have replaced it with a 36 ADL I would still like to figure out what's wrong with the original carb.
Symptoms: engine starts and immediately dies a couple of seconds later.

My mechanic, not a fiat specialist but well versed in carb function, said that it was missing parts when he opened it up to rebuild it. He said that there was a tiny little metal ball missing from somewhere inside. This ball, he said, acts as a valve to accumulate fuel or something along those lines. In the diagrams I have seen on the 32 adfa I have not seen these parts, but I do trust his word. Where are these balls located and where can I get replacements?

I can't find anything like that in the diagrams either. *shrug*.

I'd think idle valve if it starts and stops.

Parts No. 55 ad 47 on page 3 of this diagram: http://www.artigue.com/fiatcontent/carbs/32_ADF.pdf

IIRC those are non accessible and sealed in the carb.

55 is part of the accelerator pump nozzle, pulls out in 1 piece. Not sure about 47, I'd have to go and pull a carb apart to have a look.

47 is indeed part of the carb, a non return valve for fuel drawn into the accelerator pump from the fuel bowl. As it can't be removed, I can't see how it would not be there. It may be gunked up, stuck and not visible, but it should still be in the carb.
