Leaking fuel tank

Post by Italchic »

Went to take my '71 124 out of storage and discovered a slow leak in the fuel tank...what are my options?

where is the leak's source? maybe you can get lucky and just tighten a clamp. if it is a pin hole then u can get some "gas tank repair putty" and stick a bubble gum sized wad on it.......... if more serious, like a leak @ the seam, then replacement tanks are fairly cheap. or go used..... hope that helps

In my experience, the epoxy tank patches have been a temporary fix. They will eventually leak.

I finally removed the tank and took it to a radiator shop. They boiled it out and soldered the leaky places.

AR has new tanks with internal baffels and great prices.

Thanks for all the info...turns out it was just the hose from the filler pipe to the tank...whew!
