Here is what around 10 bucks got me. A few LED strips and a rocker switch and around an hour of my time. My spider is also dark blue. It looks brighter in the picture. It gives off a cool glow inside.

Neat!
I used white lights, and they come on when a door is opened, same as the courtesy light.

My '14 VW has lights like that - foot lights - that are stock & have a dimmer control. Tuner culture has mainstreamed! It's rather pleasant (red on my car..like all the other illuminated lights on the VW) I think.
