water pump

Post by narfire »

I have an 80 FI. Water pump is starting to make the screeching noise on occasion and the slow drip is seen....
Time to replace. Question..... are the pumps the same? I have a couple, one new, and one in working order from an 1800 I believe. The new one I can't remember if it was for a 1608 or 2L.
Just wanted to get ahead on ordering if required before I take the old one off.
Thx

the 1608 is different than the 1.8/2L pump. Also, cast impellers are better than stamped, it varies between brands

Yes, a cast impeller is 'better', but pumps with cast impellers have a tendency to cavitate on 2 liters that have been converted to in-head thermostats. Happened to me and half a dozen other people over the years. A GMB pump with the stamped impeller always cured the problem.
