Hi Guys
I’m having trouble starting every time i get out the Spider. I’m running a mechanical pump and because she is a good weather car I sometimes takes up several weeks in between she gets out of the garage. When she’s parked she is stalled up on a 20° ramp so fuel returns to the tank all the way.
I was thinking to install an electric pump (facet type) to “prime” the IDF’s.
Now the question: Can I just Add the pump in the trunk and leave the mechanical pump also in? Is it flow through? I also bought a filter king with a regulator to set fuel delivery about 2.7 PSI
I want to build a circuit that when I turn the ignition key the electric pump runs about 10 seconds so the carbs are primed, after that I can rely on the mechanical pump to take over, I hope to eliminate the 1 min cranking every time I left the car a few days in the garage.
Any suggestions?
Thx in advance

Re: electric prime pump
you can run a helper pump, that used to be pretty common on FI systems when pumps were mounted on the frame. It won't hurt to run the pump all of the time, but you could wire in a timer relay that shuts off after a brief run or use an oil pressure switch to turn the relay off after the engine starts

I might want to do that also.
Any suggestions on which pump to get?
And where would I get a relay?
Radio Shack?

Re: electric prime pump
The electric pumps have a check valve to keep the fuel from draining back, so if you plan to just use the mechanical after the electric prime you will need to make sure the mechanical pump has enough draw to suck open the check valve. I can see a collapsed hose in the near future. Why not just go with the electric and remove the mechanical? No need to worry about blow diaphragm and filling your engine with fuel.
