Fuel line puzzle

I have an 82 that I have converted from FI to an 1800 manifold and a DFEV carb. Here's the puzzle...I know I need one fuel line from the tank to the carb(filter along the way), but can I simply remove the second line to the tank? I believe it was the return line from the fuel rail but regardless I could use some input on vapor lock issues, which holes to use on the tank, and how to set this up without anything exploding.

Depends on the fuel pump. Some are self relieving as far as pressure goes and in relation to the return fuel line, but you will need the line for return air to prevent forming a vacuum in the tank

Right. Should have a return line to the tank from your carburetor. Not all carburetors have a return fitting, but you can get a fuel filter that does. Since the fuel pump runs all the time and the needle valve closes when the bowl is full, this allows excess fuel to flow back to the tank.

And you should have a vent line going to the charcoal canister under the hood as well.

I have deleted the return line on all my Fiats without any problems. The return line does not provide a vent to the system, it merely returns gas from the carb to help fight vapor lock which I have never had on a Fiat.
