Hagerty Insurance
Hagerty Insurance
Hagerty Insurance has been mentioned in many posts. I know, I just did a search to add to an existing one, but...
There are many and I thought it best to start from scratch.
Some of the questions or statements I saw posed in my search:
They limit the number of miles per year I can drive.
Correct, but you can ask for a higher annual milage and be charged accordingly.
You can only insure one car with Hagerty.
Nope, I just insured my second one on the same policy
You have to have the car complete before they will insure it.
Nope, Hagerty will insure it "in restoration" for an agreed value.
In my opinion, Hagerty is underwriting policies based on what you want, not their profit margins. They are incredibly easy to deal with and will help any way they can. All you need do is call them and tell them what you want.
Reason I am posting all this:
I read Russ's post about amount of restoration completion before they would issue a policy. I called them to verify what state the car would need to be in before they would cover it. 15 minutes into the conversation, I added it to my existing policy as an under construction/restoration, currently valued at $18,000.00. That value can, and will be, changed once the car is complete.
I sent them some pictures:
Ok, I sent them some other ones too... Of the bottom of the car, which looks ten times better than the top!
Jay has had great things to say about his treatment from Hagerty after Fiona got banged up so I have every expectation that they are true to their word.
So currently, I have my 77 insured for 5k at $183/year and my 81 insured for 18k at $257/year. When the 81 is done I fully plan on springing for the +/- $300/year to cover it for 25k. That is still less than a quarter of the cost with a typical policy with any major company and will at least get me 98% of my out of pocket expenses back should something happen. Forget about my labor!! It is worth NOTHING!!
All that said, call Hagerty on Monday if you have your Spider insured with your other cars on a policy with Stalefarm, Somestate or Regressive!!
Or any others you can come up with good names for!
Yes, I got paid for this commercial!! Ha!

Re: Hagerty Insurance
Someone would need to confirm this to be true for all policies, but they include up to 100 miles for towing distance including back to your home or to a repair service ( your choice)
Also my policy requires the vehicle be stored in a garage or enclosed space ( I.e. I can't leave it outside as the normal parking place)
I have No affiliation to Hagerty other than as a customer

Re: Hagerty Insurance
The towing is not automatically included. It is a option, called Hagerty Plus. It covers fuel delivery, towing ( to your choice of location with-in the 50 or 100 miles) and is comprehensive of your trailer used to carry the insured vehicle. It costs $50 per year. If you have the plus on your policy, it covers multiple vehicles on the policy! Sweet!!

Re: Hagerty Insurance
I think it's a no-brainer to get agreed-value insurance from one of the classic car insurers.
I, too, am a Hagerty customer. Never had to use them for a claim -- hope to never have to.
But signing up for the insurance with them on-line was quick and painless. I sent them a picture of my car and there was no questioning of the value I put on it for the agreed-value policy.
I have a couple of classic car buddies who live in California and they both swear by Grundy.
One had a beautiful resto-mod '57 Chevy that burned to the ground -- Grundy paid the agreed value claim with absolutely no hassle at all.
I'm a firm believer.
Many of us have more money in our cars than what the book values indicate they are worth. The only way to recover your potential loss is to get agreed-value car insurance.

Re: Hagerty Insurance
I have Hagerty for three cars and one of them is my 2012 500. It is numbered and they allowed it early on. I also had an early 500 already insured with them.

Re: Hagerty Insurance
I just checked Hagerty and they won't cover my level of usage of 6,000 miles per year, occasional commuting to work, pleasure trips and potential daily driver usage with the car parked in the driveway when not in use.

Re: Hagerty Insurance
I've had Hagerty for 6 or 7 years. Originally purchased it because of the agreed value and it allowed me to avoid the emission requirements in the Phoenix area as I was able to register it as a classic vehicle. The rate was also lower than adding it to my daily driver insurance. The car at that time was pretty much just sitting and collecting dust.
Then an unfortunate/fortunate thing happened. Someone took it from my driveway for a joy ride and ended up side swiping the drivers side. Hagerty did not question a thing. Sent and adjuster and gave me a check. I'd have to dig to find the amount, but it wasn't the full totaled amount. It was however more than enough to repair all the damage including the rusted rear wheel arches and get the car covered with a nice thick coat of sandible primer.
The theft and Hagerty gave me the incentive to restore the spider.

Re: Hagerty Insurance
I have them also. The key part here for DS is the non garage storage. No garage, no policy. I have ours at 12k miles and $12k agreed value, drive it wherever I want. Only had to use the tow once last year for a carb linkage break while on a trip up to Maine. They could not have been better in finding a tow company and a garage to do the very minor welding of the linkage. They get my vote hands down

Re: Hagerty Insurance
another happy hagerty customer here. used them for a claim last year and it couldn't have been easier. sent them some pictures and the name fo the sho i wanted to do the repair and they took care fo the rest. couldn't have been easier. that said, they do require the car be garaged, which was not a problem in my case. had t build a shed first, to get "stuff" out of the garage, but needed that anyway.

Re: Hagerty Insurance
I must be the exception here. I got through to Hagerty when I was insuring my 76. Their quote was twice Geico's... ($1000!!). I'm more than happy to give them another try if someone has a contact to have a sane conversation with?

I started out with the online quote and they followed up with the return phone call. Was easy and painless

Re: Hagerty Insurance
Great to read this thread, as I just did an online quote from Hagerty today to see how it compared to my current policy with Geico (after having Hagerty recommended to me by a friend with a classic Mercedes).
Anyway, I'd heard the "garage only" thing, but when I checked the box that stated the car would be in the driveway (no garage, but under a custom fit Covercraft cover) they still quoted me a good price on a policy. I guess I'll have to make a phone call to confirm it's a good quote, but I like what I've read of them so far!

Andy, you must UNCHECK the box in front of "insure my classic for a 5 year term"toplessexpat wrote:I must be the exception here. I got through to Hagerty when I was insuring my 76. Hahahahahahahahahaha!!!
You should try again! Don't tell them you autocross the car this time!!
Or, maybe don't tell them you grew up driving on the other side of the road! You scared them!!
