Carburetor pushing fuel to the top and into the air filter

SO the title basically explains it all.

I recently replaced the fuel filter on my spider for the first time since I had. The engine runs much smoother now, but when I look on the carb as it runs, fuel is pooling along the top and back back into the air filter area.

Any ideas? Thanks.

You might have some dirt holding the needle valve open. It's the valve in the carb controlled by the float. If it's stuck open, you will get extra fuel.

Do you know how I clean that?

The top of the carburetor has to come off to check or clean that.

Unless it's a recently assembled carburetor, there is a good chance you will destroy the top gasket when you do that.

There should be a fuel strainer on the inlet too, and if it's been a long time since the carb was built or rebuilt, that might be damaged.

You can get all this from Pierce Manifolds and other authorized Weber vendors, but check to see if it's cheaper to just get a rebuild kit, which will come with all of the gaskets and seals, a new needle valve, new strainer, and most of the other parts that can wear out.

You can get the top off without removing the carb from the car, of course.

I've heard that if you smear the new gasket with chap stick, it can be reused at least a couple times if you have to go back inside there to check or fix something in the future.

replacing a fuel filter will not cause the car to idle smoother. If the carb is flooding you either have a float that is sinking, defective needle and seat or dirt in the needle and seat

So I should buy a rebuild kit for the Carb.

Should I remove the carb completely from the car? or just take the top off to redo it?

Buy the rebuild kit. Pull it off. It should take you less than 10 minutes to have it off. Very simple carb and simple to rebuild.

My had a flooding issue (not as bad as yours), but that took care of it.

Do you have a link or a place where you bought your rebuild kit? I think the 77 and the 78 had the same Carb.

I never take off the carb for a rebuild. As Mark said, pull the float tank out and shake it to see if it is full of gas. I have seen several with pin hole leaks

I believe 77/78 came with 32ADFA - I know mine did.

Speaking of which, if you need any 32ADFA parts, except for linkage, you can have mine. Though it hasn't had fresh fuel in it in 20 years and has been laying on the ground next to the car for a year. I upgraded to a 32/36 DFEV.
