Start by examining all the hose fittings in the trunk, where the fuel tank is, then you can follow the lines under the car, where the fuel pump is if it is later model FI. Then look at the lines where they come through the fire wall in the engine compartment, driver's side. They convert from metal to soft lines there.

The old rubber fuel lines are not ethanol resistant. When you change them use fuel injection hoses. Don't forget the fuel filler hose.

Another possibility is the fuel tank cap, mine had a bad seal and I was amazed that the smell got back into the trunk. I kept looking for tank line problems but nothing.... Not sure how it did that , but it did. I put a new gas cap on and the smell went away immediately.

Do you smell it at rest, while driving or both?

If while driving check under the hood, especially at cold injector (if FI ) and a vapor canister without the vent cap can cause it too.

If only at rest...trunk & filler as previously mention.

If you have fuel-injection, you would need SAE30R9-rated hose here in the US. Carburetor cars can use SAE30R6. Both are rated for up to 15% ethanol. I'm sure somebody from your side of the world can give you DIN number equivalent.

I've had fuel smell a couple of times. One was the top plate/fuel gauge nuts were loose. The other was a hose clamp not tight enough on a fuel line (FI car)

First step is to figure out which portion of the car it's coming from....have to do some investigating with your nose. I chased a raw fuel smell in my spider years ago. Turned out the metal line running in the cabin was rusting from the inside out. I noticed the smell strong by the line behind the seat and as soon as I touched the steel line gas started seeping out even though at a cursory glance the line looked OK. Any fuel line more than four or five years old should be suspect. Any rubber lines older than that should be removed immediately.
