carb trouble
carb trouble
Just bought a running 71 1608. noticed fluid leaking and traced it back to my fuel line coming from the inline fuel filter to the carb. I replaced the small piece of fuel line and now I cannot get the car to turn over . I cant imagine the person before me tuned it with the leaking fuel line. Any suggestions? wires and plugs have been done recently.

Re: carb trouble
Have you tried spraying some WD40 into the top of the carb to help it start up?
Re: carb trouble
No I haven't, Ill give it a try. I did use some carb cleaner to no avail.

Re: carb trouble
There are many critical electrical connections in the area you were working to repair the fuel line.
Check them all, then try the start up.
Always remember. What was the last thing you did?

No go on the wd. I've checked most everything. Ill do another once over of the area. Oh and yes it was running. And while I had the tube off I also checked to make sure I had good pressure from the fuel pump.

Re: carb trouble
And the tube you fitted is free flowing and without blockage?
Is there fuel getting as far as the carbs? Ie - can you pump the accelerator and flood them?

Re: carb trouble
Check for spark if it does not start on carb cleaner. Make sure the booster hose is not broken or cracked causing a massive vacuum leak.

brake booster hose goes from brake booster to intake manifold. it doesn't attach to carb but it will cause a massive vacuum leak

Re: carb trouble
What he said above. It's the largest hose in that area, prolly close to an inch OD.71fiatblue wrote:Yes pulled fuel line again today turned Key on and ran fuel into a bucket. I'll have to check booster hose? Which one is that? Sorry newb to carbs......

Re: carb trouble
Now that you guys mention it i remember the biggest hose coming off the manifold looking pretty rough. Ill check it out when I get home. Thanks for all the help!
Re: carb trouble
So i was able to get the booster hose off. I would post pictures but I haven't quite figured that part of this forum out. Maybe someone could enlighten me. Anyways the hose connecting on the manifold side was frayed and the wire was hanging out of it but the rubber looked ok. other side wasn't to bad but I will replace with new vacuum hose. anyone know what i.d. that hose is?
