Rust removal magic

Many of you may know of the electro-chemical rust removal process but I haven't noticed it mentioned here. I tried it last night for the first time with amazing results on an exhaust manifold. Put the part in a wastebasket with Arm & Hammer Washing Powder 1 tablespoon to a gallon of water. Used an old sheet pan for the anode and hooked it up to my battery charger. Three hours later the manifold was rust free! No scraping or sanding and cost of pennies.

cool idea that I'll try.
I also recently de rusted a heat shield. I used some stuff called EvapoRust and really like it. It takes longer than a few hour soak to change a furry heat shield to shiny and clean with this stuff, but if you have time for that, this will work.
Amazingly to me, its' non toxic, non corrosive, very little odor. I used it indoors and didn't wear gloves.If this link is viewable for you at pinterest, it's one image that shows 4 stages from rust to "header red"

Only downside is it's $23 a gallon and it needs a little time. But after i used a half gallon to de rust my heat shield, I threw a bunch of rusty tools in the brown liquid curious to see it if would still work.
All the tools came out shiny the next day.

A few years back I bought a rusted seat pan on eBay for my motorcycle I was restoring. Came across the electrolysis method and rigged up my garbage can with some baking soda, rebar, wire and my battery charger. I was amazed at the result. It doesn't take any metal away from the piece and converts the rust to a substrate you can paint. I rattle canned my seat and now 4 years later, the seat pan still looks new. It's very simple to set up. I plan on using that method for my Spider's seat pans and springs.
