For those of you wondering how to watch British shows in the U.S. online (or US in the UK for that matter), may I present http://www.tunnelbear.com - a piece of techno wizardry it creates a VPN to the destination country of your choice, creating the illusion that you are actually within that country to the website you're trying to view. Very easy to use, you get 500mb of data a month free (enough for an episode of your favorite restoration show), and for $49.99/year you get unmetered.

No - I'm not on commission, just a Brit living abroad!

I'd hang on to them. Might be worth something someday, depending on what happens next.

If it is broadcast many Blue Ray players allow you to view Live Broadcast Television and Radio from around the globe for free.

I have about the least expensive Sony that included WiFi and it has this feature however I have not verified access to Live BBC Broadcasts.

It has been a good show for a long time - too bad he's kind of an idiot about his fame. Pay me a few MM a year and I'd hope to have more common sense. Maybe not - I may go crazy with the money and drive around town (fabulously) nude.

In the USA we get most of the BBC car shows (and the other shows as well, but they generally suck). These are far better than the American car shows, which seem to think that everyone who works on cars has some cheese-wad goatee or stupid arms of tattoos or beer swill long beard. Most of us don't sit around auctions looking at cars someone else has fixed. Which is why I like Wheeler Dealers - and want to be the mechanic on the show...or the little fat guy.

I agree with you about the US shows, Brad. I find the insipid chit chat unbearable, and the fake schedule drama and constant fighting are idiotic. Wheeler Dealers is the best, imho.

Another really good US TV car show is "Fantom Works", I think it is shot in Norfolk, VA. The fellow gives excellent detail as to what they are actually doing, the projects are very interesting, there is no phoney drama nonsense, and he tells the audience exactly how many hours each project actually took and what the cost to the customer was. Good stuff.

They recently did a '79 Fiat Spider, and all the usual stuff was wrong with it. LOL. Honest.

Yeah,
Fantom works is the show where they shafted that Spider owner for almost $10k for work we all do for less than half that number. Parts included.

Not sure the price was too far wrong considering the hours spent and their shop rate, but one never knows. :? If we all took our cars to the shop, none of them would be on the road, they aren't worth it according to the market, eh? My guess is that if I had all the work I have done to mine done by a shop at a normal rate, I would probably have more than $30K into it...

Sure, but we source the parts and materials at our own convenience, have an unlimited timetable and pay nothing for labor/associated labor cost like taxes or benefits. Shop rent and insurance change all the time.

I didn't see that show so maybe they took it to Maaco for paint and detailed the interior. That would be high.

If I remember correctly, it needed a complete engine rebuild, a new crossmember, and they did a bunch of interior work too.

Surely an interesting show would be to find a poor customer who's bought a spider, they take it to a workshop/barn in the middle of somewhere, where a load of us lot are awaiting with wrenches, hammers and grins abundant.... And we've got two weekends to restore it..... With our favorite parts suppliers on speed dial, a ready supply of band aids, and a bunch of most likely parts already to hand..... Hmmmm.... Perhaps that's a niche audience?? Although thinking about it .... A series in which each episode is focused upon a different owners club.... That's not such a weird idea.....

How about "Extreme Spider Makeover" where the suppliers of Spider parts take entries and once a month or say 4 times a year pick the name of a poor deserving Fiat in need of a makeover and do it for free.

The Diesel Spider would be a prime candidate.
