cold start injector resistance?

Post by burlybryan »

I'm doing some cold start tinkering today and rechecked my cold start injector. It's a new injector (year old), but has never worked, so I'm unsure if the issue is signal, the injector or fuel. It gets power (lights a noid light) but doesn't squirt. The pins on the injector measure 7.2 ohms, but I don't know what is spec. Anyone know?

Once started, the car runs great, but has always taken 5-10 minutes of cranking in temps under 50f or so.

Thanks.

I don't have a published spec. I did check 4 cold start valves resistance with an inexpensive digital meter. They all measured about 5 ohms. More important than the resistance I would apply 12 volts DC to the valves pins. They are a solenoid and make a very audible click. You could also connect a short hose to them, pour some fluid in the hose. Apply the 12 volts while blowing in the hose and the fluid should come out of the valve. I believe the cold Start valves are very reliable. The temp sensor in the intake manifold that controls the valve is much more troublesome.

You may have a bad thermal sensor. If the car is at warm the Cold Start injector does not fire.

Thanks guys. I like the idea to test it w/ voltage. The thermal sensor is newish as well. Replaced it early on in the quest.

I would look at the cable as well. They can break an 1" or so from the injector.
