5 speed rebuild, missing snapring and washer

Post by grrrdot »

Hi,
So putting my 5spd back together and the manual I have shows a snap ring and washer on the small plastic cage bearing that sits between the input shaft and main shaft. Seen on Page 35 here: http://www.moflo.org/trans/5spd_service_man.pdf
I can't find it and I, I don't remember taking it off and I don't see a groove for a snap ring to live on. Is it safe to assume that its not really needed? Maybe it was eliminated in late model transmissions and I can move on?

I ran into the same question also when I re-built mine. Mine didn't have it. You can move on and dis-regard it.

The other error in that manual (I have a copy), is it omits the syncro spring needed for 4th gear on the input shaft. :!:

The snapring is there, but the manual has a poor representation of where it goes. It holds the sleeve hub for the 3-4 slider onto the main shaft, so it's actually behind the needles roller bearing, not in front of it.
