flip top monza Abarth style gas cap

Post by dalebernstein »

Doing a restore on a '76 124 in the Abarth style. Has anyone installed a flip top/Abarth style gas fill/cap, behind the drivers area on the read deck? Looking for the cap and the gasket and not able to find on line. I can fabricated the fill tube/hose. Plan on closing up the original fuel fill door. Will be running a fuel cell. thanks in advance! my fiat restore web site, http://dalebernstein0.wix.com/fiat124spider-restor

Dale, I did something similar to what your proposing on my daughters '79 spider. I got the flip up cap from Moss Motors, it's the one used on Triumph Spitfires. I welded the gas cap cover to the rest of the body and filled around the gaps with metal to metal body filler. They also sell the rubber gasket to go over the neck of the filler where it passes through the body. Check out the pictures under "fiat spider related" Daughter's Fiat, to see how it looks. Good luck! [img][https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-3rDk ... 02.JPG/img]

My 850 spider has the fuel cap where you are proposing to put yours. Not a good location if you don't want the service station hose from dragging across your paint job.
