ok guys i need help with Throttle cable PLEASE

Ok the po rigged up a cable to work (sorta) well it finally broke on me on the way to work... I had my wife follow me home after work I set the idle to 3grand and drove it home like that... I have no clue no I am stumped on how to do a correct throttle cable I tried to use a universal cable from Mr. Gasket but its to short and its driving me but Lol how did you all do your throttles .... I have seen on some of your picks a pivot throttle on the intake valve cover but that would be impossible to find that piece I'm sure... Thanks for your help in advance

post pix of your current throttle set up. Have you measured the length of your old cable. what do the ends look like

What year is your spider and can you take a photo of your current setup?

this is how it was when i got it and it worked sorta but really hard to press and it finally broke, it was a 1980 FI and the po rebuilt the motor with mods and carbed it

Try to find the throttle cable, bracket and carburetor cable spool from a 75 or 76 spider.

Either that or look at pics in this forum of the different ways this can be done.
It's not at all hard to source or fabricate the little bits needed for this project.

The part I refer to as the spool, is a plastic cylinder that bolts to the throttle shaft in place of the usual link arm. The end of the cable wraps 3/4 of the way around this spool and locks into the spool with a swaged button on the end of the cable.

I fabricated a throttle cable on my alfa when i ditched the spica setup in favor of dual 45DCOE webers. I used a bicycle brake cable. they are 100 inches long, braided, and have a chemical resistant sheath. just trimmed it to length and it has been working for years. Universal brake cables have 2 different ends swagged onto the cable. just cut the end you don't need and use a bicycle brake anchor bolt to hold the other end.

Looking at your set up, replacing with a 76 or similar linkage that attached to those helpful mounts at the end of the valve cover would sort you out. The cable goes to the linkage on the cover, and then a solid rod down to the carb.

while you are at it, I would replace the standard hose clamps with proper fuel hose clamps

First get rid of that intake manifold. Looks like a dual plane manifold from a 79 Spider, worst ones out there.
Find a 1800 single plane manifold from a 74 to 78 spider.
Get a cam cover mounted throttle bell crank & cable from a 78 to 80 spider
You will also need a universal throttle linkage for weber vcarbs, Mark Allison or Auto Ricambi sells these.

I'd say simplify your life - if the goal is to get it running and just drive around then get the aforementioned throttle assembly from the late model Spiders. It is simple and works. Then get rid of all of that stuff in between your fuel pump and your carburetor, you should have a hose with a fuel filter in between and nothing else. All of that other stuff is going to leak - you don't need a fuel pressure gauge.

That is assuming you're not running an FI pump into a regulator to bring it down to 3 psi. If so then you need to get rid of that setup and bolt on a mechanical fuel pump. Running 38psi into a 3psi regulator to a carb is asking for a high pressure leak - a misting of fuel - which causes things to go BOOM. I'm looking at that hard line fitting into your hoses and am more concerned for your safety than over a throttle cable.

Over time I'd replace that manifold and get a choke (or just replace the carb, that's a DFEV, about $190).
