Indicators

Post by Antileon »

Hi
I am new here and with a just purchased 124 spider 1800 from 76
I really do not like the US bumpers and have decided to have no bumpers at all.
However, since the front indicators on the US model are in the bumper, I need to find a indicator solution. I am seeking a solution that looks nice and does not require any big holes or cutouts ? I have the spare holes from the bumpers and a set of square holes under the lights.
Anyone ?
Thanks from Denmark

Welcome to the forum and FIAT ownership. Too bad you don't like the bumpers, the car unfortunately looks neutered without them.

I would mount these on each corner:

I'm kidding of course - but I would put the bumpers back on, just a personal taste issue I guess.

Brad's a purist - and we love him despite that! :)

As commented above there are plenty of threads on here about this - look for "turn signal" not indicator

My personal favorites are the VW Golf Mk3 signal into the "square" hole and bumperettes in the round hole, or 1964/5 Mustang units into the "square" hole with some metal work to close up the hole and fill the round hole. This second options looks great as you have the chrome surround matching the headlight (oh - and you swap the units left to right from the mustang version to fit right).

Also - if you're removing the bumpers you'll want/need to lower the body - those old bumpers weigh a lot!

Thanks for constructive input.
I am new here, both to the car and to this forum. English is not my first language so forgive my wrong choice of parts names.
I am sure that Brad is loveable. :D
About taste - As a industrial designer myself, I actually like the original bumper without horns, but I am quite certain that Mr. Farini "designed" ( if he did ) the US bumper with a bleeding Heart under pressure from Fiat to meet US safety regulations. But, we are all entitled to our opinion -

Not a problem. Indicator is the right word in many places in the world - but the US it's Turn Signal.

Here's a good thread on this kind of stuff.

The turn signal indicator is located in the dash cluster and provides a visual confirmation that the turn signals are flashing.

These are blinkers:
