Aux shaft timing

Post by ga.spyder »

I have my motor back together after the 'freshening'.I am ready to try and get it back into time.Is there some sort of timing mark on the aux shaft ? My car is f.i.,so of course,it isn't used to drive a fuel pump.I saw a post years ago, where someone took the shaft out and ground the lobe off of it? Has anybody here done that,or would that even make any sense ? After 2 monthe of inactivity, the only time my car has ever been laid up,I am ready to hear her run again!

Thanks for the reply, Joe! My question, do I look for a mark or is there a hole I use for reference? I didn't see either but I will head out to the garage and look again

Thanks Joe and Roy.That bracket would be awesome to own !! Hmmmm.... I have got it now and the illustration helped. All these years with a Fiat, and I have never had to actually re-time one. I have been pretty lucky I guess.I have even raced a 124 in 4 races and never had to do the timing.

I did that to mine. There is an oil gallery in that shaft that has to be plugged at the end. Before this forum I cut, pushed the existing plug out, drilled out the galley and red thread-locked the plug back in. 4 years later it is still holding....touch wood.
The pros and what I would do now is tap the galley and red thread lock a threaded plug of sorts. Evidently the shaft is tough stuff to thread though but doable.
