Just my humble opinion: We all have our unique personalities. In reading this since the original post I have been thinking about one of my first posts here and Mark's reply. I didn't know what to think at first since I didn't know who Mark was at the time. The difference here is that I didn't get upset and denigrate Mark or his knowledge. I think that is where Johnny went wrong. I just stated my case and moved forward. I have talked to Mark on the phone a couple of times since then and he was very helpful. Even though he runs a business fixing these cars he took time out of his day to help me with my issue. I have never talked to a mechanic that was willing to share his knowledge as freely as Mark does.

In my opinion Johnny made a mistake. If he wants help with his issue he needs to check his ego at the door, apologize to Mark and move forward. If he doesn't, he is missing out on the best forum for Fiat Spiders and all the excellent help available here.

On the other side of the coin, Mark, maybe with a new member you could just say, "We need more information in order to help with your question" Then after they get to know you, you can rip them with the sarcasm.

yes, I could have just asked for more information and then again johnnie could have responded with "lol, good suggestion" or listed all of the items he's already checked out. In some demented, alternate universe I didn't expect the suggestion to open the hood to be more than an offhand comment that was meant to be humorous.
FWIW, I wasn't offended by the "nerd with a Craftsman toolbox", I thought it was pretty funny. I wasn't even sure it was meant to be an insult since nerds and geeks are now much admired as some of the few people that can make things work.

As the moderator of all of us "Spider types" that post here, you obviously have thick skin and a great sense of humor.
Don't change Mark and while I'm at it, thanks for all you do supporting us here.

I really had a good meme for this....

To be met with a "you need to open the hood" is maybe ok with someone we know or are use to but for a newcomer maybe not so. As innocent as it may have been this was the trigger.

This is a great little forum and one I have pleasure in flicking through from time to time. Please don't let it be like others where the peer users that have all the time of day to be on it end up making it their own. That's when guys with the technical knowledge start to become disenchanted and disappear, they are the guys that give real interactive info that you can't always replace with a stale old google search.

...and those nemes, what's the go with that? The humor or message in those are just about as poor as that guy on that hood pic I use to see on here. They remind me of teenage facebook comments.
Glad to see that you do not pass judgement or make assumptions of others

If every person on this forum had to stop and think about how everyone who reads their post might feel, the forum might be blank (obvious joke). That being said, we have guidelines, we have moderators and we have our peers. WTF? so people who can access the forum more frequently are going to push out those with technical knowledge? How do you know that they too, do not have the same or perhaps more technical knowledge (retired mechanics etc etc etc). So providing people with a direct link to information (stale or otherwise) is not real or interactive info? Using some broad strokes on that brush of yours my friend.

No response needed, just something to think about. :|

Oh yeah, while I'm at it

You may need to print off that last meme, face the mirror with it and read.
