Body Side Moulding Insert Tan- Guidance

Post by Fiatbrit »

Hello, I have an 1981 Fiat Spider and I am missing one piece of the plastic/Vinyl trim inserts for the front fender that fit in the channels of the (apparently aftermarket) side mouldings. The mouldings appear to be rivet on aluminum.

They look just like the side mouldings in the red car on the homepage.

I assume alot of this is in the junkyards but having trouble finding tan. Custom Auto Trim sells new in white or black but mine is tan and they want you to buy 10 feet. I only need the insert for the front driver's side fender. I could probably use one aluminum end as well. Worst case I could paint a white piece using vinyl paint but not sure how it would turn out.

Please advise if anyone has any or knows where i could find some.

Thank you

Replace them all, and they will all match.

Hello Fiatbrit:
I helped one of our members back in the Fall with some left over black vinyl insert which I no longer needed. I do have some tan insert which I would be willing to give away as long as it matches (I will send a short sample which I can mail). I also have 2 end styles which I will take some pictures tomorrow. Please email me at whhopson@southernco.com so I can get you some pictures and aIso a mailing address.

My aftermarket aluminum/vinyl molding came from J. C. Whitney and was made by Deluxe Auto Molding in Chatsworth, CA. I don't think they are there anymore.

When you install the new insert, use soapy water to help push it on and jam in on both ends. The insert will shrink with time and a gap will occur if it was not compressed in length to begin with.

Warren,

Thank you for your kind offer. I have emailed you my information as you mention below. I appreciate the assistance. The car is Brown so i would like to retain the tan molding.

Much appreciated.
