This would be the ultimate 124 engine upgrade:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ferrari- ... enameZWDVW
All alloy block and head, probably the same weight as a 124 engine. Mark, can you make some headers?
Will this fit in a 124 ?

Re: Will this fit in a 124 ?
Definitely would be a sweet engine. I think it would be cost prohibitive to rebuild....and then of course you have all the business of adapting a tranny and getting a better diff....
But, who wants to be a buzz kill? A 2.4l Dino Coupe is my dream car.
Now what I would LOVE in my spider is my 2.5l Alfa v6. Probably around the same size as that dino engine, maybe too tall.

Im feeling ya ,Matt.I saw a Dino at a car show and the body was toast but the engine was sweet!I spent a couple hours telling the owner how good that motor would look in my 82.That ,to me ,would be the ultimate Spider.Keep your V-8's

Owning a Fiat Dino Spider wouldn't be too bad either.

Re: Will this fit in a 124 ?
There was actually a real 124 Spider that had these engines. They were a series called "Sportivo di Pininfarina".
They go for lots of money. They are dark green with the Daytona alloys and a tan leather interior.

Tom,
Do you have any links for the car you mentioned? I googled your exact phrase and found one, but it wasn't related per se. If you google in english, that doesn't narrow it down too much.

Miragesmack,
This is all I know. There was some photo session planned December 2006 but haven't seen anything yet.
They do look pretty plain apparently. A bit wider, a bit lower and a couple of Ferrari and Pininfarina badges.
Apparently there were 20 dark green Spiders (CS series) fitted with a 2 liter Ferrari engine and badged "Sportivo di Pininfarina". Apparently there is one in the Turin Fiat museum.
According to the owner of one of the cars, there is 9 of these 20 cars still "alive". They were never sold originally.
3 allowed into the US.
1 not allowed in the US
1 at Christies auctioned
1 in Austria
1 FIAT Museum
1 in Australia
one in private collection Family von Battista "Pinin" Farina.

4 cyl, 2 liter: That's what I' got in my car now. Well at least they used a good year, 1978 instead of those lack luster 81-82 FI models. Ha Ha.

Mine does not lack luster. Although, the luster may seem to diminish a little when I add my visage to it.

Tell em' Ron! The Dino engine on ebay that started this discussion ,and the one I saw, was a 6 cyl. not a 4 cyl.The motor on ebay(not complete or running) went for $1200! That 164 horse 4 cyl. would be sweet.

Re: Will this fit in a 124 ?
$1200?!? I'm shocked it went that cheap. I should have bought it.
A barn find, non running, dented up Dino just went for about $120K a few months back. That went well past my paltry offer.
Tom, thanks for the history lesson!
