Re: Lost Of Power When In 3rd Gear
It could be that the fuel pump is not keeping up with the engines fuel requirements by the time you get into 3rd gear.
Try accelerating slowly and short shifting to see if you can change to engines output when you get to third.
I know you were dealing with fuel pump issues before. You may not have fully cured them.

Cool, i will try it the morning, so far all the info i'e received from this site has been the correct lead to my issuesRoyBatty wrote:It could be that the fuel pump is not keeping up with the engines fuel requirements by the time you get into 3rd gear.

Thanks again my friend.

3rd gear is usually where fuel issues show up. It's important to make sure the suction side of the pump doesn't have leaks in the hoses
Re: Lost Of Power When In 3rd Gear
One thing i did find this morning was i had a 1/4" line pulling from the tank and 3/8" lines from the fuel pump going out the trunk area and up to the front of the cars gas line, next i have to see what size i have going from the filter in the front going to the carb before it enters the carb.
Do you guys think that could also be a issue?
And last but least what size lines should i have 1/4" or 3/8" lines, i know they all should be the same size all around the gas flow system correct?
Thanks again guys you guys are alot of help.

Re: Lost Of Power When In 3rd Gear
Ok guys got a chance to drive the Spider again today got the same thing drove fine for about 2 or 3 blocks on my way to get a new rear driver side floor pan welded in drove then shut down in third again changed my gas line the other day also, seems to start right back up after it dies, i also have one more hole to plug from the intake manifold that would go to the EGR valve if it was installed, but i don't need smog so i removed all the smog stuff to the best of my knowledge, wonder if i should have left the Fast Idle Electrovalve installed.
The electric fuel pump i have is a see photo below
The tube that comes from the intake manifold that would attach to the EGR valve that i haven't cut and plugged up yet.
And last but least will this part cause any of this to happen if not working properly the Speed Up/Fast Idle control assy.

Re: Lost Of Power When In 3rd Gear
Do you have a see thru fuel filter in the engine compartment?
If so, look at it immediately after the engine drops power, without restarting the engine.
Is the filter dry or is it full of fuel.
Compare this to how it looks right after you start, up before you hit the road.
If there is obviously less fuel in this filter when the engine drops power, your pump is not keeping up with the engines fuel needs.

Cool will check into, that next waiting to get the car back after the rear floor pan weld is done.
Re: Lost Of Power When In 3rd Gear
Well went to pickup the Spider after the weld was done this evening would start, seems the fuel pump may have burnt out, no pumping when the key is starting but i bought anther pump to install in the morning. Good thing i had my car hauler with me when i went to pick it up.
So another set back and a issue to track down hopefully this is the problem not a strong enough pump that has burned out.

Re: Lost Of Power When In 3rd Gear
Never got to changing out the old return line from the tank to the the hard line had some other issues i was taken care of and found that the return line was what was cause the pressure to drop, the line was leaking but never noticed it til i had the spider up on my trailer reset my timing went to start it and saw a leak near the back but it would dry up before i could really notice it,spiderrey wrote:dId you ever clean out the hard lines?

Finally got out and about today in the Spider with no issues at all

Re: Lost Of Power When In 3rd Gear
I had the same issue on my ol 68. Changed out the pump, and rebuilt the carb many times. Then I found the line at the back of and under the car . It was causing all my problems. So now I change every hos and blow out the hard line to make sure that it is clear. If it wont blow out, I force a long hard wire all the way through it to clean it out.
