Remember the Leake Aucttion 72? It's Back!

Post by Exit98 »

So the nice orange 72 Spider that sold at auction in Nov for $9,000 is now on ebay with a $24,000 asking price.

Here's the prior post: http://www.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=29247

And here's the ebay listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fiat-Other-Spyd ... ars_Trucks

It looks nice but its far from perfect. The dash is rough and the wood looks poorly done. And they painted the side marker light surrounds orange. Strange.

And for $24 K you'd think they'd fix the wipers.

It has its flaws, but all in all its a very nice car.But ....it isn't 20K nice!! That company has a lot of cars on Ebay, and they all have very inflated pricetags.

Just wondering...
Does changing our "Spiders" to "Spyders" add $10,000 value? :?
Now if that was a blond hood ornament...maybe

From what I can see in the photos, it probably should be a $20K car if it runs and drives really well, but Fiat 124's still haven't made the jump in price like a lot of other classics have. I can tell a lot of time and money was dumped into restoring that car, and know from experience, you can easily put over 20K into a car from the early 70's. If any of the 124's will reach 20K, it will likely be original looking early cars like this one.

Problem is, 20K can get you a really nice Alfa Boat tail, which is a more exclusive Italian roadster, at least here in the USA. The other problem is 124's and Spider 2000's were made for so many years, there is still enough of them out there to keep the prices down. Same is happening with 105 Alfa Spiders that were also sold for over 20 years as basically the same style car. Nice one still can hardly get 10K, while GTV's, which are the same mechanicals, are often getting 2 to 3X that.

They have also painted the tail light surrounds orange. Proper restoration would have rechromed them. This begs the question, what else is the orange paint hiding?

Item ended $6,700 "Reserve not met"

The car has some cosmetic issues. But,nothing that couldn't be easily fixed. If it is all that it is described(I know...big 'if'),then at 10K it would be well bought. We all know it is unlikely do all that work and have that nice a car for less than 10K.

He'll have a hard time breaking the $10,000-$12,000 range for this car.

Seller is waiting for an impulsive and uneducated buyer at $24,000.....and will get used to seeing this car around his showroom. He will have to work hard to get his $9,000+ travel, shipping, prep, and marketing expenses back.

they are out there .... had some college kid, dripping family money, offer 8 grand for my car couple weeks ago ... I was very close to taking his money ... then I pictured the life and death of that car and said it was not for sale ...but man I was close .... sure would be a different Christmas with 8 grand in your pocket ....

It's been on the block several times around on ebay, the biters are not to his favor. I understand wanting to make a profit of a few thousand bucks. I've even seen folks trying to double up. But wow, he's on the UK site trying to quadruple his money at approx $38,000 US
Talk about greed, sheesh!
