Dash instruments Gauges.

Post by vdesigner99 »

Greetings all, I have a question regarding the instrumentation gauges, I have a set of gauges from a 1984 2k that I would like to replace with a 1975 set. The main reason is that the 1975 are clean and not faded. My 1984 are faded and lack luster. My main concern Is of course the speedometer and odometer. The 75 odometer maxes out at 120 while the 84 is 80. Not that that matters to me however the 75 Has a lot less mileage on the gauges, Is this legal to change out? I reside in CA. I understand that I would have to replace the speedo cable.I particularly like the deep look of the 75 gauges. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

The speedo cable that fits the 1975 type gauges will be a lot shorter than the one in a 84 Spider, as it was routed throught the trans tunnel. On the 84 it goes through the firewall, thus has to be longer.
Others may have done this, so there may be a workaround.

Speedometer not odometer. Yes it's legal as long as it's noted on a sticker place on the door jamb (I think that's the location).

Thanks for the reply and correction. I have an old 75 screw on cable and will modify to accept. Again I like the deep look of the 75 gauges. I will attempt to replace and post an update.
